Essex Legacy

Your Games

The London 2012 Games is your Games; a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the world’s greatest athletes take part in fierce competition across 26 different Olympic sports and 20 Paralympic sports. Not only does the Games provide the community of Essex with the chance to experience Olympic and Paralympic competition, but also hopes to set out a sporting legacy that will encourage sporting participation from all sections of society.

It is rare that the Olympic and Paralympic Games are so close to home, making London 2012 a once in a lifetime opportunity and an event that simply cannot be missed. And with the Olympic Flame due to arrive in Essex next July as part of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay, there are plenty of opportunities to be involved.

The London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay will arrive in the heart of the county, in Chelmsford on Friday 6 July 2012 for a spectacular Evening Celebration. The evening Celebration will offer thousands of people the opportunity to come together and get involved in celebrations and share in the Olympic spirit.

As part of the Olympic Torch Relay, 8,000 Torchbearers will carry the Olympic Flame. 90% of the 8,000 Torchbearer places will be made available to the public through the four nomination campaigns being run by LOCOG and the Presenting Partners, Coca-Cola, Lloyds TSB and Samsung.
