Essex is committed to promoting Tourism. The Essex Legacy for the 2012 Games team work closely with the Essex County Council VisitEssex department to maximise potential benefits that London 2012 could have on Tourism in Essex.

Essex key Priorities and Actions for 2009-10

The Essex Strategic Board for the 2012 Games produces an annual delivery plan to outline the consolidated legacy objectives for that year. The legacy objective for Tourism in 2009/10 is:

Extend the use of 2012 as a tool to impact on tourism in Essex.

Key Tasks

To integrate the Essex Legacy for the 2012 Games aspirations into the Tourism Strategy for Essex, to raise the profile of cultural and business activity and visitor opportunities within the county, thereby increasing the value of tourism and the local economy.
To develop the tourism product to support the potential benefits on the games in:

                        - Cultural Tourism
                        - Business Tourism
                        - Sports / Activity Tourism

To promote an Essex ‘Year of Culture’ to raise awareness of Essex and its cultural offer and maximise the tourism economy. To establish a cultural programme which could become the basis of Essex’s involvement in the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.

2012 Games website for Tourism businesses

Tourism2012Games.org is a great new online resource for anyone who works in hospitality, leisure or tourism and wants to get involved with the 2012 Games. The site – co-published by VisitBritain and London 2012 – contains useful information about visitors likely to come to the Games and how to reach them. It also has essential guidelines for businesses who are hoping to promote themselves to these visitors. Read more
