- Currently ranked 3rd in hte UK for 20km following performance in Lugano, Switzerland, whilst representing England
- Selected to represent Great Britain in the 8th European Cup of Race Walking (50km Walk) in Metz, France
2008
- 1st in the UK/RWA National Championships, 10km walk, senior category
- 1st in the Olympic Trials (Birmingham), 5000m walk, senior category
- 1st in the CAU Inter Counties (Bedford), 3000m walk, senior category
- 11th in the EAA Permit Race (Slovakia), 50km walk, senior category -achieving intertional 'B' Standard for Olympic Games
- 3rd in the EAA Permit Race (Switzerland), 20km walk, senior category
Highlights
- Qualifying for the 2008 Olympic Games in only his 2nd ever 50km event. Daniel was the 6th fastest of all time and was fasted by a British athlete for eight years
- Although 2008 was Daniel's most successful season to date, it ended on a sour note after failing to be 'selected' for Team GB at the Olympic Games, despite having achieved the standard
Team Essex Ambassadorial duties
- Working with Colchester Schools Sports Partnerships, Thurstable School, Tiptree
- Alongside attending the Awards and official launch of the Team Essex Ambassador's at the House of Lords (January 2009) Daniel has been keen to promote his role through working with Mid-Essex PCT NHS delivering a speech (Upstarts Project) at Edith Borthwick Special School (March).
- Attended the Official Launch of Upstarts Project - project designed to encourage Young People to actively engage in regular exercise and be aware of the importance of good nutrition
- Journey to the Podium - working wtih artist Ron Suffield
Impact of Team Essex Ambassadorial funding
- The funding through being a Team Essex Ambassador has allowed the inclusion of important physio and massage sessions on a regular basis. Regular physiotherapy and massage are vital in not only addressing any biochemical /physiological issues and aid recovery but also work as a preventative to tuture injuries
- Daniel is now able to regularly purchase vital training equipment (i.e training / racing shoes) without worrying abut the cost. On average, Daniel gets through a pair of shoes every 3-4 weeks training in excess of 150km a week throughout the year
