Grant Aid for Essex Athletes
In Essex, the County Council are supporting three tiers of funding for athletes.
sport:exl - sportessex
The entry level support we give is through Sport:Exl a foundation established by sportessex the County Sports Partnership in Essex.
This funding is available for young people who are on the start of the talent ladder especially those on the gifted and talented registers in School Sports Partnerships. 30 grants will be awarded per year.

SportsAid-Essex
The next level is SportsAid, a national charity operating a countrywide scheme that provides direct financial assistance to those with proven abiltiy at a National and Regional level in sport between the ages of 12 and 18 years for able bodied athletes and with no age restriction for disabled athletes. 55 sports are included and the funding is aimed at those at GB /National Level or squad members wtih potential but not in receipt of other funding. e.g. TASS. Team Essex Ambassador's Award
The top tier is the Team Essex Ambassador's Award funded fully by Essex County Council to assist athletes achieve their sporting potential. The Team Essex Awards awards grant aid to those athletes who have the potential to compete at the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games but also contribute time as Ambassadors to encourage young people to continue or get involved in sport and strive to be the best they can. The scheme happens annually and applications for Team Essex Ambassador's Award 2010/11 will reo-pen Sepember / October 2010. Applicant instructions will be available from this website.

Essex County Council Paralympic Hopeful
Sailor Lucy Hodges was presented with the Essex County Council Paralympic Hopeful award at the 2009 Essex Sports Awards hosted by sportessex. Lucy is now launching a Paralympic campaign in the skud 18 class and all those around her hope to see her participate in this event in 2012.
Swimmer Jo Jo Cranfield won the award in 2008. Jo-Jo was encompassed within the Team Essex Ambassadors 2008/09 taking part in many public appearances and ambassadorial duties for Essex County Council and is currently part of the Team Essex Hall of Fame.

Essex Rural Community Fund for London 2012 Open Weekend
Grants of up to £500 are being made available for rural community groups to organise events during this year’s London 2012 Open Weekend on 23-25 July.
London 2012 Open Weekend is a nationwide event which marks the date of the opening ceremony for the London 2012 Games. It enables people across the UK the chance to take part in sport, arts and cultural activities in their local area. The theme for this year’s Open Weekend is ‘set a challenge’ to encourage people to participate in any sporting or physical activity.
Local community groups are being invited to organise a sporting event that challenges the public to participate. The event could be anything from a treasure hunt to tai chi, wrestling to walks – as long as it involves getting people physically active.
