The Essex Carrying the Flame Primary Cross Curricular Resources provide schools with examples of practical blocks of work, lesson plans projects, activities and games. The activities are designed to be flexible and can be adapted for use with small groups, classes or in whole school settings and relate to National Curriculum objectives.

The Essex Carrying the Flame also supports targets related to increasing the amount of time that children participate in high quality physical education and school sport and also in promoting healthy active lifestyles, and has been designed to complement the London 2012 Get Set Education programme.

It must be noted that no objectives have been listed and the class teacher needs to have these in mind before searching for appropriate activities to meet the needs of the pupils and the local context. The activities have been listed under subject headings for convenience, and it is envisaged that teachers will choose activities linked to objectives matched to a certain approach within the theme of the Olympics, e.g. the Opening Ceremony, Transport and Infrastructure, designing an Olympic Village, History of the Olympics.
