Schools across Essex are working on two 40 metre art relay batons that will be unveiled in 2012 to coincide with London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Five Essex primary schools are also working in conjunction with schools in Venezuela, with a Baton moving between the two countries. Each school participating has chosen an Olympic or Paralympic Value to base their art work on. Each school has the baton for approximately 3 weeks before the baton moves to the next school. The project has received the London 2012 Inspire Mark. In May 2011 Olympic mascot Wenlock visited Beauchamps High School to see the art baton being created. Both batons are due to be completed by July 2012 with Batons being unveiled on;
Tuesday 10 July, 9:30am – 3pm at Chelmsford Sport and Athletics Centre indoors athletics track.
Friday 13 July, 9:30am – 3pm at First Site, Colchester, education room.
Participating Schools include St Francis Roman Catholic Primary School, Lawford Mead Infant and Nursery School, Holly Trees Primary School, Market Field School, Colne Engaine CofE Primary School and The Ramsey College.

Five Schools across Essex have been linked with five schools in Venezuela and are currently involved in an International Art Relay baton. Churchgate CofE Primary School started the baton and designed art work based on the Olympic and Paralympic Values. The baton now travels to Venezuela where the five schools will complete their piece of artwork on the baton. The baton will then travel back to Essex in 2012 for the remaining four Essex schools complete their piece of the baton. View Photos>>
