Schools

Essex Legacy is committed to providing schools and educational facilities with the opportunity to bring Olympic and Paralympic values right into the classroom.

Part of holding a London 2012 Games event in Essex is about ensuring the next generation of athletes are inspired by the exploits of local sportspersons. We are encouraging schools in Essex to get involved with the London 2012 Games through a variety of means.

  • Schools can arrange a visit from one of our Sports Ambassadors to give pupils an idea of the dedication needed to become an Olympic or Paralympic athlete.
  • We are also offering the opportunity to visit the Olympic venues right here in Essex.
  • Teachers can also use this website as a portal for resources as part of the Get Set programme.

We are keen to instil in schools the Olympic and Paralympic values of dedication and achievement and see this as one of the best ways to secure a sustainable legacy from the London 2012 Games.

Essex Carrying the Flame

Essex Carrying the Flame is an Education framework set up by Essex County Council to use the inspiration of London 2012 to encourage learning in all areas of the National Curriculum. The resources available provide schools with examples of practical blocks of work, lesson plans projects, activities and games. The Carrying the Flame framework supports the current Essex Physical Education and School Sport programmes and initiatives, as well as highlighting cross-curricular ideas that can be used to support a 2012 Games-related festival or sporting event.

Get set

The Get Set network is the official London 2012 education programme for schools, college and local authority education providers across the UK.

The aim of Get Set is to involve as many children and young people as possible in the excitement of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, taking the magic and inspiration of the Games out to classrooms, playgrounds and into the lives of young people.
