Anglia Ruskin University

Anglia Ruskin University is set in the heart of Chelmsford a short walk from the train station, making it one of the closest venues to the Games.  The extensive accommodation available makes the site an ideal prospect for hosting international teams.  The 4-court sports hall is a first class fencing facility and a flexible space that accomodates international volleyball and National League Basketball.

Key Facilties:

• 8 badminton court multi-purpose sports hall 37.3m x 33.3m x 9.1m clear height. The Sports Hall can accommodate 6 pistes.
• Floor, Junkers New Era Timber Sports Flooring (BSEN 14904 Class A4). Lightweight pistes can be taped to the floor easily.
• Ancillary Equipment Moveable retractable seating for 480 available.
• 2 x Multipurpose Studios 11m x 14m with Junkers DuoBAT 110 timber sprung floor (BSEN 14904 Class A4), capable of being joined together to a single area 22m x 14m. 3.2m – 3.8m ceiling height.
• 2 x Squad meeting/ lecture room 5.5m x 13m capable of being joined together to a single area
• Fitness Suite with 100 cardiovascular and resistance exercise stations and loose weight equipment. 600 m2, fully air conditioned with consultation/treatment rooms adjacent.
• Fully equipped strength training area – 600m2.

The facility boasts a wide range of onsite equipment for warm-up, warm down activities including table tennis, volleyball, basketball, badminton, circuit and speed training gadgetry and equipment to improve balance, speed, agility and hand-eye coordination

 Hosting Experience:

• Anglia Ruskin University hosted the Team GB Volleyball team in 2011 providing accomodation , catering, and training facilities
• Anglia Ruskin University has provided accommodation for a number of International events, including the Junior European Athletics championship with over 250 athletes, aged 14 to 16 years old, based on-campus
• ARU has played host to overseas squads form France and Italy, providing a range of activities to enhance lifestyle and wellbeing, as well as catering facilities
• In addition to the facilities at our Mildmay Sports Hall, the University is able to liaise with leading Sports Science and Sports Performance experts on site, provide on-campus complimentary therapy treatment and has a large number of on-campus accommodation facilities in the centre of Chelmsford
• Risk assessments will be undertaken with regard to third party threat, crowd control and order and the overall safety and security of athletes whilst they are on site
• Access and egress of the athletes from the Centre is also given a high priority and appropriate security staff could be made available to look after the needs of players and officials
• The University is sensitive to cultural and dietary diversity and the requirements of the team can be pre-agreed prior to their arrival to ensure that their specific catering arrangements are accommodated
