The Lee Valley White Water Centre is regarded as one of the world’s best white water centres and is the ideal place to host the Olympic canoe slalom events. The centre was built from scratch for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. There are two brand new slalom courses – the Olympic Standard Competition Course and the Legacy Loop. The venue itself lies just 20 miles (30km) north of the Olympic Park in Stratford and benefits from excellent transport links.
The canoe slalom events will take place on the competition course, 300m of snarling white water that is fed by pumps forcing competitors to battle 15 cubic metres of water per second; a challenge even for the world’s best. In addition to the competition course, the Legacy Loop has been constructed as the perfect course to bring on and develop future champions.
Both of these courses are already open for you to use and enjoy.
The Centre will reopen after the London 2012 Games and is a world class white water venue for the people of Essex, just over the Hertfordshire border.
The Lee Valley White Water Centre will welcome 60,000 people during the Games with the temporary grandstands and facilities ensuring that spectators are comfortable and have a great view of the action throughout the five days of events.
