After the July test event at Hadleigh Farm, the key measures put in place to manage the roads around Hadleigh were found to be effective, and feedback has informed the development of plans for traffic management, parking and the Olympic Route Network for the period of the events at Hadleigh Farm in August next year.

Local area traffic management and parking

The local area traffic management and parking plan is put in place to help mitigate disturbance to the local residents during the period of the Olympic Mountain Bike competition. The aim of London 2012 and its partners is to encourage spectators to not drive to the venue and use alternative methods such as the train or the parkand- ride which will be put in place specifically for the event. Additionally, as for the July test event temporary traffic management and parking measures around Hadleigh Farm will be implemented to:-

  • Prioritise parking for local residents and local businesses, so that they can continue to park in local streets and disruption is kept to a minimum.
  • Prevent spectators from parking around Hadleigh Farm.
  • Provide a safe environment in the area around the venue.
  • Keep local traffic moving in the area around the venue.

Residents and business Restricted Parking Zone (RPZ)

In order to prevent spectators parking around the venue a temporary parking zone will be put in place on event days to prioritise parking for residents and local businesses. However, as with the July test event there will still need to be parking restrictions on certain access roads to the venue.

Permits for properties within Restricted Parking Zone (RPZ)

During the July test event all residents and businesses located within the Restricted Parking Zone (RPZ) were allocated with Visitor permits. London 2012 and its partners plan to use this method during the Olympic events days in August.

The Olympic Route Network (ORN) for Hadleigh Farm

The Olympic Route Network (ORN) is a network of roads linking all the competition venues for the Olympic Games. It will enable key participants, such as athletes and officials, to travel safely, securely and efficiently between venues and their accommodation, while also keeping the local area moving.

The main part of the ORN restriction is an urban clearway to prevent parking and stopping on the A13. There is already an urban clearway restriction on the A13, so the ORN restrictions will be simply an extension to the hours and days for which this is operational for a temporary period. The roads affected by the ORN will be the A13 from London to Hadleigh Farm, including London Road and Kiln Road between the Sadler’s Farm roundabout and 200 metres south-east of Chapel Lane. Chapel Lane from London Road to the Hadleigh Farm venue will also be included. There are no plans to have any designated ORN lanes on the A13 or roads accessing Hadleigh, however as during the test event, there may be some changes to the way properties off Chapel Lane are accessed.
