On 24 and 25 July 2010, over 5,000 people attended Summer Days in Southend-on-Sea as part of London 2012 Open Weekend.
Summer days was a festival of Sports, Art, Music and more for all ages at Priory Park, Victoria Avenue, Southend
on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th July 2010.
Activities included:
Cycle and rowing challenges, Streetdance performances and workshops from Kayzar, Story Rhymes on a sport theme from Book Start, Go Ride for children, North Shore Track mountain bike skills course for experienced cyclists, Bike Crew performances, Rollapaluzza – 2 cyclists battle it out on rollers over simulated 500m at over 50mp, Games & Activities, Basketball - Essex Pirates,Southend Swifts,Gaudeamus – Vocal Ensemble, Melvin Beddow Big Band, Southend Judo Club demonstrations and taster sessions, AKITAS Judo Club demonstrations and taster sessions, Karate & Kickboxercise class, Giant Chess, Rhythm connections family drum circle" Percussion instruments workshops & performances, Face Painting by Book Start, Trampolining display by Southend TID, East 15 Acting School Southend based stage combat course, A short performance will be followed by a demonstration of fight skills and the chance for audience members to try it out - if they dare, Tennis, Aerobics, Kettlebell – Creating Leisure, Rock-It-Ball Club – demonstration matches and taster sessions, Southend United FC, Rhythmic Gymnast, “Come and Try Bowls” Open Day through Priory Park Associated Bowls Clubs, Kwik Cricket - Old Southendians and Southchurch Cricket Clubs, Flamenco Ole – performance and workshop, SACC Drawing Relay – Run from 1 easel to another – 4 different points in the park, SACC Knit your own medal, SACC – British sign language taster session, Olympic/Paralympic themed community art project for 2012 – everyone invited to participate, Art in the Park – displays by local artists, Palace Theatre Writing Project performance Fun/drama workshops on an Olympics theme from Emerge, Relay Fancy Dress, Children’s art activities, Team YP inspire marked project (display stand), Southend YMCA, The Sole Runners (free running/parkour), Chase Bowmans – Archery Club. Taster sessions, Recycling Team display, Display of Southend Cultural Olympiad activities, Disability sports - Boccia
Acro performance – Mix of acrobatics and dance.
