World Sport Day on Monday 25 June 2012 is your chance to get your school and community involved in celebrating the athletes and cultures of the teams that will be coming to the UK for an amazing summer of Olympic and Paralympic sport.
With more than 200 Olympic teams and 170 Paralympic teams arriving in the UK this summer, London 2012 World Sport Day is a perfect opportunity for every school and community to join thousands of others for a mass, fun-filled celebration. As the opening day of Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week, London 2012 World Sport Day is a great way to add a dash of international flavour to a week of school sport activities.
There are many different ways in which you can get involved in World Sport Day. You can:
– host your own opening ceremony;
– organise a ‘global showcase’, highlighting sports, languages, food, music and dance from around the world;
– create the flag of your chosen Olympic and Paralympic teams in whichever way you choose; and
– decorate the school for your World Sport Day and National School Sport Week celebrations.
To help with your planning, fantastic World Sport Day resources are being launched each month leading up to the event – from tips from the London 2012 producers on how to stage an opening ceremony, to a step-by-step guide and video to help you learn the official Mascot Dance. Don’t forget to invite other local schools and members of your community to join in the party!
Schools can also order their free event pack, containing branded stickers and posters to decorate the celebration, from the World Sport Day website. Members of London 2012’s Get Set network can get their hands on an even bigger, better event pack containing an inflatable globe, giant banner, colourful bunting and more!
