London 2012 themed schools photography project

22 Jul 2010

This Photographic Exhibition ‘Catching the Moment’ is the culmination of a special project completed by a group of schools aimed at helping children achieve. It is part of the government’s ‘Achievement for All’ initiative which has involved ten local authorities, one of which is Essex. It will help all schools participating rethink their approach to and expectations of pupils. ‘Achievement for All’ in this county involves 32 primary schools, 8 secondary schools and 2 special schools in Essex.

This particular project has involved a small cluster of schools and used photography as its theme. Highwood Primary School, Hylands School, Roxwell Primary School and Writtle Junior School have worked together to create some truly stunning pictures. The feedback from students was  overwhelmingly positive and the standard of photography very high. It has inspired pupils, improved their confidence and raised their self esteem. It has also formed strong links between the schools and allowed them to share experiences, expertise and pupils successes.

The project was made made this project possible thanks to:
• The Local Authority and the ‘Achievement for All’ team, together with Kelly Harman and the ‘Essex Carrying the Flame’ initiative who granted us the additional funding and whose encouragement was invaluable.

• The Punjabi Dance Group ‘2 Fly’ for their energy and friendship.
• All the staff from the four schools who have supported the children.
• The parents of the children involved for giving us such lovely pupils with whom to work.
• Mike Cundy, artist and photographer.
• The children's ihard work, enthusiasm and talent that has made this project such an amazing success.
