Roberto Pavoni was crowned British Open Champion at Sheffield, April 2010. Pavoni, was also the winner of the Essex Sports Awards 2009 Olympic Hopeful, jointly suppported by Essex County Council.
Pavoni, won the 400 IM final with a long course time of 4.14.55 (the fastest in the World this year), smashing his previous pb by almost 3 seconds and beating all the top ranked swimmers in Britain, including Olympic swimmer and British record holder Thomas Haffield.
His nomination in the Commonwealth Games Squad, as well as the European Championships, is now official.
Roberto won praise by commentators, radio and TV stations, as well as from all top Directors and coaches of the GBR Team.
He qualified for the final of the 200 IM.
This past year has been one of great achievements for Roberto as a result of the relentless training he has put in both in and out of the pool. In March 2009, Roberto became the British National Champion in the 100m Butterfly, 200m Butterfly and the 200m Backstroke. In April 2009, he upset the Australians in spectacular fashion by becoming the Australian Age Group Champion in both the 200m and the 400m Individual Medley. This season culminated in fantastic style in July with Roberto becoming the 400m Individual Medley European Junior Champion in Prague, defending his previous title at this event.
August 2009, Pavoni won the Queensland Short Course Swimming Championships in Brisbane/Australia where he will be based until March 2010.
Roberto entered 8 races, setting new personal best times in all but one and breaking 6 East Region (100 Breast in 1.03.55, 200 Breast in 2.17.85, 100 Individual Medley in 56.16, 400 Individual Medley in 4.12.33, 100 Fly in 53.50 and 200 Fly in 1.57.16) and 6 Essex records (200 Back in 1.58.55, 200 Breast in 2.17.85, 100 Fly in 53.50, 200 Fly in 1.57.16, 100 IM in 56.16 and 400 IM in 4.12.33) in the process.

Roberto returned to the the UK in March 2010 to compete in Sheffield for the Commonwealth Trials.
Roberto trained at the Brentwood Centre before moving to Loughborough to join British Swimming on 11 April and the University in October 2010.
