On Monday 3rd May, Central Park in Chelmsford hosted the first ever Essex Global Gala.  Global Gala is part of the London 2012 Insipre mark awarded Explore Culture One World Festival, that contributes to the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad, by inspiring the people of Essex to celebrate Culture and the Arts - part of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic values. 

This free event, hosted by BBC Essex, transformed the park into a medley of colours, sounds, smells and tastes celebrating the many different cultures that exist across Essex.  Diverse communities from across the county came together to share their toe tapping music, dazzling dance, unique crafts and delicious food.  The day also featured the performance of a special story, linking together the various myths and stories of each culture, and an explosive evening performance by the internationally renowned, Cuban and Jamaican mix, music maestros Ska Cubano at 7pm.

The Essex Global Gala was delivered by by Essex County Council as part of the Explore Culture: One World Festival, managed by the Cultural Events Team at Chelmsford Borough Council and supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund. This event was made possible thanks to generous support from The Essex Chronicle Media Group, BBC Essex, The Printing Place, The Meadows Chelmsford and High Chelmer Shopping Centre.
