Today marks 50 days to go until the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games and preparations are well underway across the County, as we host the Olympic Mountain Bike event, welcome the Olympic Torch Relay and communities across Essex continue to be inspired by the greatest show on earth!
In celebration, Essex County Council today is encouraging communities to get creative and get celebrating as they launch their free ‘Lets Celebrate 2012’ pack to aid local residents in celebrating the Olympic Games in their community.
Essex County Councillor Stephen Castle, Cabinet Member for Education, Lifelong Learning and 2012 Games commented: “Essex is in a fantastic position to enjoy the 2012 Games. We are not only hosting the Olympic Mountain Bike event at Hadleigh Farm, we also welcome the Torch to 17 communities across the County. This pack gives residents the perfect opportunity to get excited, get involved and show the rest of the World that the Olympic sprit is alive and well in the County. I urge the communities of Essex to come together, order your pack and join in the celebrations. This is a once on a life time opportunity and I know the people of Essex can lead the way.”
The ‘Lets Celebrate 2012’ packs contain posters, bunting template and Torch Relay guides. Also available are ‘Lets Celebrate our Stars’ flags, for residents to wave in support of our seven local Athletes already picked for Team GB.
It’s clear that the residents of Essex like to celebrate, after last weekends Jubilee celebrations saw Essex ranked as the 5th highest County for road closures in the UK, as 282 roads were shut to join in the festivities. With 113 ‘Celebrate Your Fete’ events taking place across Essex over the next few months, this is a perfect opportunity to keep the excitement mounting as we countdown to the Torches’ arrival and the Opening Ceremony. Why not arrange a street party or BBQ for the Opening Ceremony or host your own mini Olympics? The greatest show on earth is coming to the UK, Essex and your community. Lets make the most of it - Lets Celebrate 2012 in Essex!
These free packs are available from your local Council offices, Libraries, Schools and Parish Councils.
