Essex Carrying the Flame small grant scheme for schools

22 Sep 2011

Schools across Essex (excluding Southend and Thurrock) have the opportunity to apply for funding towards a project that connects the school/s with 'Sparks will Fly'…festival in 2012.

From mid May to early July 2012, Sparks will Fly… will see two larger-than-life characters arrive in the county. The two visitors will be created by outdoor performance specialists, Walk the Plank. They will each travel around the county stopping off at towns across Essex where the visitors and their local supporters will process through high streets and parks to join free festivals or events to welcome the giant visitors.

At every event across the county there will be processions involving young people as well as professional performers. The procession routes have been worked out to enable as many people as possible to enjoy Sparks will Fly - to ensure communities across Essex take part in the celebrations of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

This grant scheme is for Schools to develop cultural projects that can contribute to the Sparks will Fly events in spring/summer 2012.
