We have so many talented sports people in the County it’s a testament to their success and the skills we have throughout Essex that our club has been picked from thousands of applicants. I hope all of Essex will join me in congratulating Rayleigh Town Archery Club on such a fantastic achievement’.
London 2012 Games Makers will be the face of London 2012, with the chance to show what the UK is all about: excellence, passion and positivity. Set against this truly inspirational backdrop they will build new friendships, develop skills and play an integral role at the heart of the largest event ever staged in the UK.
Volunteers have been integral to both Summer and Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games since they were used for the first time at London 1948. So in 2012, the volunteer programme will be coming home to the city where it all began!
A total of up to 70,000 volunteers will be needed for the Games. A quarter of a million people applied when the application process opened in 2010 and since then, a selection and interview process has been underway to find the best candidates for the roles.
Rayleigh Town Archery Club flew the flag for Essex, when they were invited to participate in a weekend test event. Eight members of their club were selected to volunteer and help at the Archery event at Lords Cricket Ground.
