29 Jun 2011
The 3foot People Festival - the largest festival in the UK exclusively for under 5s - was back from 29 June to 1 July in Central Park, Chelmsford. Nearly 7000 pre-school children and their carers enjoyed delightful entertainment familiar to all, together with a variety of new and surprising activities – all presented by popular demand and all specifically designed for an audience of little people.
With just a year until the biggest sporting event in the world arrives on our doorstep, the Cultural Events team at Chelmsford Borough Council worked in partnership with Essex County Council’s Carrying the Flame team to develop an appropriate pre-school take on what the grown-up athletes are doing in London in 2012.
The Tiny Tots Games engaged babies and toddlers in an extensive range of ‘sporting’ challenges each constructed to show the skills and physical prowess of tots so tiny. Crawling featured highly with several races testing speed and distance, whereas toddlers got a chance to show off their walking and (soft) javelin throwing amongst other feats. There were ‘medal’ stickers galore for the winners of each race - and who knows how many future Olympians took part?!
Tickets for The 3foot People Festival were a sell out.
The 3foot People Festival is managed by Chelmsford Borough Council and supported by M&G Investments, Seymour House Day Nursery Schools, The Meadows Chelmsford, Essex & Suffolk Water, High Chelmer Shopping Centre, The Essex Chronicle Series, BBC Essex and The Printing Place.
