A delegation from the Barbados Olympic Association visited Colchester to view the towns approved training camp facilties on the 14 May 2009.
President Steve Stoute and secretary general Erskine Simmons were shown Colchester Garrison's athletics track on Abbeyfield and the Physical and Recreational Training Centre on Berechurch Road. They praised the quality of the facilties they saw in Colchester.
Barbados is looking to bring a 30-strong team to the London 2012 Games, with up to 20 competitors taking part in athletics, cycling, swimming and boxing.
A consortium made up of Colchester Council, Essex County Council, Colchester Garrison and Essex University is promoting the towns sporting facilities. The four Colchester based facilities approved as Pre-Games Training camps are: Colchester Garrision, Colchester Leisure World, SD Martial Arts Centre and University of Essex.

Colchester Borough Council leader Anne Turrell said she thought the Barbadian visitors had been very impressed with what they saw and hope to welcome them back to the town in 2012.
