Essex_key_priorities_and_actions_for_2009-10
Culture and Festivals play a key role in welcoming and world to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Essex, located adjacent to the Olympic Park has a unique opportunity to contribute to the celebrations through an established cultural partnership.
The Essex Strategic Board from the 2012 Games Cultural Delivery Group are working closely with their partners to develop a cultural programme of festivals, events, projects and exhibitions, ensuring that Essex plays a key part in 'Welcoming the World' to the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
The London 2012 Cultural Olympiad
The Cultural Olympiad is a four year programme combining cultural activities and education with sport; inspiring new experiences through exhibitions, performances and celebrations in all arts and cultural media including street festivals, museum exhibitions, dance/theatre performances, film, food and fashion. The Cultural Olympiad will offer a unique opportunity for Essex to extend their connections with culture in all its forms.

Essex contributions to the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad
Essex have a strong cultural partnership who are keen to make a significant contribution to the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad and in turn shape the Essex Legacy from the 2012 Games. Essex partners have been involved in inspirational projects and events since the 2008 handover that have had recognition and coverage from London 2012 and other high profile organisations. Essex Legacy from the 2012 Games Cultural Olympiad Conference 2009
In December 2009 the Essex Strategic Board for the 2012 Games (ESB) Cultural Delivery group hosted a conference specially aimed at how Essex can maximise it's cultural offer to the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad. This vibrant conference was a sell out with a range of delegates from local authorities, cultural organisations and individuals from the private and third sector cultural industries. This was the first in a series of stakeholder conferences that will be hosted by the ESB between now and 2012 which set a model of good practice for the other ESB delivery groups to follow. London 2012 Open Weekend 2008-2012
Over 40 events took place across Essex 23,24,25 July to celebrate London 2012 Open Weekend, an annual event that celebrates the countdown to the opening ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. All these events have been registered and approved by London 2012 as activities and events inspired by the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. These events encouraged people to 'challenge themselves, open up and try something new' using the inspiration of the fast approaching London 2012 Games. Click here for more information.

Launch of the Cultural Olympiad 2008
26 – 28 September saw the official Cultural Olympiad launch with a huge range of inspirational programmes. Essex kicked off the Cultural Olympiad with EastmeetsWest: A Twilight Spectacle at Weald Country Park on Saturday 20 September. Essex County Council Arts Development team commissioned arts organisation ‘Walk the Plank’ to create a spectacular outdoor event inspired by the Chinese mid-autumn Moon Festival and the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.

The summer of 2008 saw Essex unite to celebrate the Olympic handover, Paralympic handover and cultural Olympiad events. Highlights included flag raising at all local authorities, regional focus for the Paralympic handover at Chelmsford Sport and Athletics Centre, and the Inspire Mark awarded East meets West twilight spectacular cultural Olympiad celebration. The London 2012 Inspire Mark
Non-commercial organisations delivering projects and events genuinely inspired by the London 2012 Games can apply to have them recognised through the London 2012 Inspire programme and be awarded the London 2012 Inspire Mark.
The Inspire Mark is being awarded to the most accessible, participative, inspiring and stimulating projects and events across sport, culture, education, environment, volunteering and business skills. The inspire mark is part of London 2012’s brand family and has been awarded to an increasing number of Essex projects. Click here for the latest list of Essex projects with the Inspire Mark

The ‘inspire mark’ is part of the London 2012 brand family and will be subject to a standard license agreement being signed and approval processes being followed.

Essex key Priorities and Actions for 2009-10
