Sparks will Fly

Celebrations

Sparks Will Fly is a county-wide cultural celebration commissioned by Essex County Council and Chelmsford Borough Council, created by Walk the Plank, with support from the Arts Council of England.

About Sparks will Fly

Sparks will Fly…begins with the arrival of two Champions who travel around Essex during May and June, before they meet for the first time to play The Game, pitting their strength against each other as they conjure up wind, water and fire in a spectacular fiery showdown, at Hylands Park, Chelmsford on 6 July 2012, following the arrival of the Olympic Torch.

The Journey

From May 2012, the two Champions will visit  towns and villages, carnivals and events, around the county - most of which are free to attend and suitable for all.   Come and meet the the champions at a journey stop somewhere near you in Essex>>

The Finale

The Sparks will Fly Finale in Chelmsford on 6 July will contribute to the London 2012 Festival - the biggest festival in the UK ever leading up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The London 2012 Festival is also the finale to the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad - a four year programme aimed at using the London 2012 Games to inspire creativity across the UK. It is a comprehensive and professionally produced programme that will deepen the legacy benefits of the final commission performance.  The Engagement programme has been awarded the London 2012 Inspire Mark
