Essex Ambassadors

Essex Ambassadors

This summer, Essex will receive visitors from the UK and all over the world during the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.  Essex County Council have recruited over 300 Volunteers to assist these visitors called the 'Essex Ambassadors'.

These local volunteers have been recruited to be the face of Essex and give a warm welcome to everyone visiting the county during Games time and other celebratory events. They will be located at Essex airports, Sparks Will Fly events and Harwich port to greet visitors as they arrive and assist with journey and venue information in and around Essex and help answer any other questions visitors may have about the Games.

The Uniform

On 5th April at Hylands House in Chelmsford, the location for the Olympic Torch Relay overnight stop and celebratory extravaganza ‘Sparks will Fly’, five local Essex Ambassadors helped launch the eye–catching uniform (see header photo).

Training

All 300 Essex Ambassaors are receiving comprehensive training from April 2012 to fully qualify them for this role and potentially inspire future opportunities in Volunteering and employment.

Volunteer Centres

Since September 2011, Essex County Council has been working with Southend Association of Volunteer Services, and volunteer centres across Essex to recruit and select residents from all over the county to become ‘Essex Ambassador’ Volunteers, who will play their part in the London 2012 Games.
