This summer, Essex has been receiving visitors from the UK and all over the world during the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
Essex County Council have recruited over 300 'Essex Ambassadors' as volunteers to assist and support these visitors. These local volunteers have been recruited to be the face of Essex and give a warm welcome to everyone visiting the county during Games time and other celebratory events.
These Essex Ambassadors have been out in force, volunteering at the London 2012 Olympic Mountain Bike event, and the Olympic Canoe Slalom events, the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay event, the Paralympic Flame Celebration, Sparks will Fly and many more local Games inspired events this Summer. They have also been located at Essex airports, and Harwich port to greet visitors as they arrive and assist with journey and venue information in and around Essex and help answer any other questions visitors may have about the Games.
All 300 Essex Ambassaors have received comprehensive training to fully qualify them for their roles and potentially inspire future opportunities in Volunteering and employment.
Since September 2011, Essex County Council has been working with Southend Association of Volunteer Services, and volunteer centres across Essex to recruit and select residents from all over the county to become ‘Essex Ambassador’ Volunteers, who will play their part in the London 2012 Games.
