
Have you ever wanted to take part in an Olympic or Paralympic Sport? Now is your chance! This is an opportunity to challenge yourself, raise money for a local charity and take part in the legacy for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Gold Challenge is a unique new charity challenge in partnership with Sport England, the British Olympic Association and Paralympics GB.
Take on 3 hours coaching in 5 different sports from 30 Olympic sports and Paralympic sports. From boxing to archery, water polo to fencing; is there an Olympic sport you’ve always wanted to try? Now you can do it and raise money for the Essex Charity The J’s Hospice. The Gold Challenge gives everyone the chance to be part of the sporting legacy. You can take part as an individual or as a team and commit to the 5 sports between you.
The world’s biggest event is taking place in only a few months’ time and already 85,000 people across the country are celebrating by taking on the Gold Challenge. This charity challenge forms part of the official legacy for London 2012.
There are over 150 charities Gold Challenge charity partners that participants can choose from to support and there are dedicated teams in place to support schools, employers, gyms and individuals with their challenge.
Individuals or teams aggregate distance of 2012km or just do 2012 minutes of one or more of the following sports:
Running – Swimming – Cycling – Walking – Rowing- Canoeing – Sailing – Windsurfing - Horse-riding
The challenge is fully inclusive with every (team) members’ efforts counting towards the total.
Gold Challenge will create a page for each team so they can record their distance/time travelled on their online totalizer and see how far they have left to go to reach the 2012km/minute target!

By your gym members formally registering with the Gold Challenge and fundraising online for one of our charity partners they will be entered into a number of competitions for some great prizes!
Did you know we just held a test event in the Olympic Stadium for 20,000 people? Over 1000 Gold Challengers had the opportunity to be amongst the first people to run 100m on the track!

The J's Hospice is working alongside Gold Challenge organisers to facilitate coaching sessions in Essex. A three hour coaching session will be available in: Basketball, Water polo, Badminton, Trampolining, Boxing, Fencing, Handball, Tennis, Judo and Volleyball with all sessions taking place at Great Baddow High School, Chelmsford. Days and dates will be confirmed shortly.
The J’s Hospice provides age appropriate Hospice at Home care for young adults throughout Essex with life limiting conditions. This care includes specialist nursing care and support, respite care, end of life care, social and psychological support, information and advocacy.
If you are interested in other sports, or this timetable is not suitable for you, then the Gold Challenge website can direct you towards the sports of your choice.
Go to www.goldchallenge.org to register - decide if you are taking on the challenge as an individual or a team (and have a team name ready if you are choosing the team option!) complete your details and then choose The J's Hospice from the drop down list of charities.
