The Olympic Torch Relay travelled through Essex on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 July 2012, passing through 17 towns and villages on its way to the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. In just a day and a half, an estimated 450,000 people took to the streets of Essex to welcome the Olympic Torch Relay to the county showing their support and cheering on the Torchbearers as the Flame made its way from Colchester to Saffron Walden.
